On June 16, a group from our church competed in a race together. This wasn’t just any race however, this was a Spartan Race…a race that is not for the weak at heart.
Spartan Race, founded by Joe De Sena in 2007, is a series of obstacle races of varying distance and difficulty ranging from 3 miles to marathon distances. They are held in US and have been franchised to 30 countries including Canada, South Korea, Australia and several European countries. The series include the Spartan Sprint, the Super Spartan, the Spartan Beast, and the Ultra Beast. Spartan Race also has a military series, hosted on military bases. There are also winter and team events.
Our group from GBC ran the Spartan Sprint. The Spartan Sprint is known as “The Three Miles that WILL Change Your Life”. The Sprint may be the Spartan’s shortest distance race, but it’s still a favorite among both new and returning racers. It’s the perfect distance for those looking to start their Spartan journey. The Sprint also allows returning racers a manageable distance to see how far they can push themselves. Delivering 20-23 obstacles over 3+ miles, you’ll never run the same race twice. Once you complete the sprint you are 1/3 on your Spartan TRIFECTA: The ultimate Spartan achievement.
This was a great fun day for the GBC Crew who tested their strength and endurance. They persevered with the remembrance that they can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens them (Philippians 4:13).
