Join us May 20 for an interest meeting / non-committal first team meeting. Sign up below!

Our church has the opportunity to work together with Momentum Ministry Partners to serve the city of Philadelphia through one of their Urban Centers. From July 25-30, our team will engage in cultural ministry, prayer, and evangelism. Momentum Urban Centers, Philadelphia Campus (formerly Urban Hope) specializes in hands-on ministry field experiences in the surrounding Fairhill neighborhood. Serving opportunities include ministering to the homeless, participating in park ministries, children's ministries, and other peer-to-peer ministries.

Please read the following FAQs prior to registration.

Philadelphia, PA

July 25 - 30

Is there a cost for the trip?

Calvert Grace fully sends our short-term missionaries. This means the church, as a body of believers, will cover the cost of each participant. While this trip will not financially "cost" you anything, we encourage the body to come together to raise the needed funds during our Short-Term Missions special offering Sunday.

What will we be eating each day?

Great question! We actually provide our own food and have access to a commercial kitchen at the center. We will determine the menu for the week during our team meetings so that we can accommodate preference and dietary restrictions.

What are the sleeping accommodations?

We are staying in the Balmer building. It has a dormitory layout with guys and girls sleep on separate floors where their perspective restrooms are located. Room sizes vary from 4-8 people per room. If you have specific questions or concerns, please reach out to us.

Can my entire family attend?

This is a family-friendly trip and we encourage families to serve together. Momentum Urban Centers requires all minors be in middle school or high school, so any children under 12 cannot attend.

What is our transportation to Philadelphia?

Our team will be using the church vans for travel purposes.

What kind of time commitment is required?

We will have five mandatory team meetings before the  trip. The dates for those team building/training sessions are below. They will be from 7 PM - 8:30 PM each evening.

  • May 20 (non-committal first team meeting)
  • June 3
  • June 17
  • July 1
  • July 22
What is the current covid situation like in the neighborhood surrounding Urban Hope?

The current Philadelphia restrictions (which frequently change) are limiting 25 people indoors and 100 people gathering outdoors. Our team will have our own dormitory building with no other teams.

Currently, masks are always worn in public places. We will consider each situation that we are in when ministering outdoors so that we can "always be gracious" (Colossians 4:6).

What does an average day of serving look like?

Momentum sets us up with a guided week based on our strengths for serving. Each day begins with breakfast, devotional, and training sessions prior to groups prepping their day and heading out. Lists of opportunities include homeless ministry, prayer walking, cultural ministry/evangelism, and park ministry.

If someone has dietary restrictions, are we able to accommodate that?

We provide all food for ourselves. Momentum offers a full kitchen that connects to a dining room.

What type of physical limitations are there?

We will walk almost everywhere we go. The approximate distance to be walked each day varies, but will never be less than three miles. There is usually no heavy lifting.
