Making Disciples Like Jesus

Jesus was Passionate

Before Jesus’ death on the cross, he prayed the “high priestly prayer,” embracing and communicating his role as the mediator between us and God. In that prayer, Jesus shows us His passion for His disciples and the passion for them to continue His ministry. If we are going to make disciples like Jesus, we need to be passionate about discipleship, passionate about the people God has entrusted to us, and passionate about the truth found in Christ.

The Greatest Commission

On the heels of the inspiring “Let’s Go! Outreach Conference,” guest speaker Dave Guiles shares an important message about the greatest commission.

Jesus was Personal

Jesus cared for people intimately, giving a personalized touch to everyone He met as He called them into following Him. His interaction with Peter after He rose from the dead shows us just how far Jesus goes to not only redeem us and restore our place with Him, but to also model for us how far we are to go to personalize the gospel for others. If we are going to make disciples like Jesus, we must get to know people personally and speak the Good News into their lives.

Jesus was Intentional

Jesus made disciples by being intentional. He specifically sought to interact with sinners, with people who He knew would be open to receiving Him, and with the crowds as they sought to be ministered to by Him. If we are going to make disciples like Jesus, we need to be intentional like Him, pursuing opportunities to interact with those who don’t follow Him yet and being mindful of moments when people are seeking Him.

Jesus Was Prayerful

Before Jesus called his disciples, he spent time with the Father, praying. We see all throughout Jesus’ recorded ministry on earth that he would spend time in prayer before doing ministry and after. He relied on the Father’s guidance in everything, especially with making disciples. We need to pray like Jesus as we pursue making disciples for him.
