One of the greatest shortcomings of the religious leaders of Jesus’ day was mistaking why they were doing what they were doing. They believed man had been made for the Sabbath, but Jesus pointed out the Sabbath had been made for man. The inability of the religious leaders to grasp the need for God’s grace and to embrace it and praise God for it caused Jesus anger and grief. We can never lose focus of why we do what we do in the name of, and for God. God’s grace and mercy, as reflected in His Word and His Son, will always prevail over the laws and traditions of men.
