Our Mission

We want everyone to come to KNOW Jesus, GROW in Jesus, SERVE for Jesus and GO share Jesus with the world!

Our Ministry Leaders

My passion is for everyone to know Jesus, His gift of eternal life and His power for doing life – for people to see themselves the way God sees them – priceless and unique, with a specific purpose for God. I am constantly amazed at how God can bring meaning and purpose out of anything life throws at us. Outside of church, you will likely find me with my best friend and wife, Susie, at a baseball game, feeding the fish with a rod and worms, or simply enjoying the outdoors. I also enjoy bringing people laughter – which is good, because then it doesn’t matter if they are laughing at me or with me.

ROBERT WAGNERFounding Pastor - Pastor Emeritus

I count it a blessing to have been used by God in His work here at Grace over the 33+ years of the ministry history. Seeing how God has moved and worked in and among our people has kept me humble and thankful for being a part of His Kingdom work. Pastors never “retire”, so I continue to be blessed with the opportunity to serve our people in new ways in my new season of life. My wife, Diana, and I love our people and are enjoying watching our children and grandchildren grow in the Lord here. We look forward to what the Lord has in store for us each day, and rejoice in His work among His people.

JOE COUCHPastor of Outreach

I grew up in Arkansas, so Razorback football and basketball, duck and deer hunting and going to church were what life was all about, and in that order.  At the age of 10, I heard the good news of God’s great love for me, in Jesus Christ.  I realized my sin separated me from God and that I needed Christ as my Savior; so, I confessed my sin to God and placed my life and eternity in the care of Jesus Christ, the One who died and rose again for me!

Since that time, my life has been a journey and an adventure that I could not have imagined.  I have come to realize, not only was I saved by God’s grace alone, but that I am kept close to God by His grace alone.  I have had many ups and downs, some successes and many failures, but through all of it, the Lord Jesus has kept me close to Him and never left me alone.

I’ve been in ministry over 20 years, I have an amazing wife, Ruth, and 4 wonderful children – Mary-Catherine, Luke, Mark and Caleb.  I still enjoy football and basketball, duck and deer hunting, lifting weights, P90X and Insanity, I think those things are just in my DNA!  I am a Pastor and I have a passion for the whole world to know Jesus Christ and love Him so much that they have to tell others about Him.  I do this, NOT to gain anything from God, but to say, I love You, thank You, for making me Your child!

MATT LEACHDirector - Congregational Care

I am passionate about caring for people. My life experiences have let me see God work in some of the most heart-wrenching things of life. I have learned God is Good, all the time; even in those times when we can’t understand where He is leading. I want to share the comfort God has been to me with those in our family here at Grace. My family and I really enjoy spending time together doing anything. We take walks, we sing, we play games, it really doesn’t matter what we are doing as long as we do it together.

NATHAN ORLANDIDirector - Youth Ministries

Growing up in this church, I enjoyed being involved in the youth program and having people truly take an interest in my life. I am ecstatic to be given the opportunity to return the favor and invest in the lives of our students here at Grace. Besides my ministry, I am passionate about all things athletic, playing, watching, and coaching sports. I currently serve as the head junior varsity baseball coach at Huntingtown High School as well as an assistant football coach at Northern High. I find great joy in seeing student athletes excel on and off the field!

My musical career began when I was cast as an elf in my second grade Christmas play.  Since then I have given up the green tights, but have delighted in seeing how God continued to open doors for me in the field of music, including a 26 year professional career in the United States Navy Band.  In 1983 when I was asked to play guitar and lead some singing for a bible study group led by Pastor Bob Wagner, I had no idea that Grace Brethren Church would become our home for these past thirty some years!  It is humbling to stand and lead the congregation as we worship our Risen Savior in song. My wife Robbin and I are blessed with a large family and enjoy spending time together. Whether it’s a mountain hike, a scenic drive, or a good game of Frisbee golf, we love to get outside and witness the evidence of God in His creation with our adult children and grandchildren.  I spend most of my time trying to keep up with them!

Kids energize me and make me smile! Leading, teaching and loving them into a lifelong relationship with Jesus is the heartbeat of our Children’s Ministry here at Grace. When I’m not serving the church, I love creating anything that involves flour and a rolling pin, family hikes in the great outdoors, and properly brewed Typhoo Tea.

This area of ministry chose me 🙂 Looking back on my personal and professional life, I can see how God was planning this from the beginning. I am passionate about music, kids and Jesus. Combine the three together and you have my work at Grace. How cool is that?! When I’m not serving the church, I like to hang out on the soccer field or at the beach with my two favorite people; my husband, Bill and my daughter, Claire.

JOEL PROCTORDirector of Finance and Facility Administration

I was given the wonderful opportunity to work with Pastor Wagner and this great church fellowship in 2003 after serving with two other churches as Business Manager and also as an accountant for a large produce farm. I love working here because it allows me to serve a large portion of our congregation while managing a variety of tasks. I get a great sense of fulfillment while working on projects with our many volunteers. When I am not at work, I love to golf, play basketball, and fishing with my grandchildren.  I grew up in a small town and remember fondly the sense of freedom we enjoyed playing in the woods, having neighborhood ball games and riding our bikes into town to shop at the “five and dime” store.

EMILY HORNICKELCoordinator of Women's Ministries

I began my relationship with Jesus Christ when I was five years old during Awana. Even at a young age, I realized my need for a Savior, as well as God’s great love for me. I am confident that God has placed me here to love Him and love people. I am also grateful for the privilege to share the hope that comes from His grace with a world who is so desperately in need. My husband, David, and I began attending Calvert Grace in 2008. The church has become our second home and its people, our family.

My background is in education, as I spent ten years teaching kindergarten and second grade. God opened doors and gave me the gift of staying home with my children, which also afforded us more opportunities to serve at church.  I began to sense God’s call to women’s ministry after serving on our MOPS leadership team for several years and seeing Him at work in the lives of women in our community. I am excited and grateful to encourage, serve, and support our women’s ministry leaders here at Grace!

In my free time I love spending time with my husband and our four children- David Jr, Will, Kate and Emma. You can often find us around a sports field cheering on our kids or the local DC teams. We also love to spend time out on the water and enjoy anything cooked on our Big Green Egg.
